Oakland Athletics Closer Off To Spectacular Start In 2024
D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller has started the 2024 regular season off as well as you possibly could. He is top 10 in the league in saves with eight and has not surrendered an earned run in his last 12 appearances. Miller has also surrendered a hit in only three of those 12 games.

He got off to a rough start in his first appearance of the 2024 season against the Cleveland Guardians on  March 30, surrendering two earned runs in one inning of work but has not allowed an earned run since.

Miller is 0-0 this season with a 1.10 ERA. Will Miller be able to keep up his hot start?

Mason Miller Career Summary

Miller made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics in 2023. His rookie season was cut short when he was forced to miss four months with a sprain of his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). He returned in early September but struggled in his return to the big leagues. Miller had an inconsistent rookie season, finishing 0-3 with an ERA of 3.78.

Oakland Athletics Shopping Miller

It has been reported by a variety of outlets the Oakland Athletics are willing to deal Miller, but are asking for a hefty return for his services. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Oakland is looking for a return that includes a young player of comparable ability, or a substantial package of multiple youngsters who could be part of the A’s future in exchange for Miller.

Rosenthal noted that while trade discussions are ongoing, no team has come close to meeting Oakland’s asking price. Only time will tell how this situation will unfold regarding Miller and his future with the ballclub.

Oakland Athletics Season Summary

The Athletics(18-21) are third in the American League but have fallen on tough times lately losing four of their last five games. The issue has not been their offense, but the Athletics pitching staff. Oakland lost on Wednesday by a score of 12-11 to the Texas Rangers and on Tuesday they lost 15-8. No offense can keep up with such a poor performance from their pitching staff.

The Oakland Athletics are 21st in ERA and are toward the bottom of the league in Quality Starts and opposing batting average. Whether Miller will be with the Oakland Athletics for more than a few more months, the team has some great things going for it as they prepare for life outside of Oakland, California.
